Charles William "Chuck or Charlie" Schuster passed away at his home in Lancaster on October 23, 2016. He was 99 years old. He was born on April 17, 1917 in Chanute, Kansas. Son of John and Mary LaVergne Schuster, he was one of nine brothers and sisters. When he was young, the family relocated to Garnett, Kansas where he lived until he moved to Hawthorne, California in 1940. He worked in the aircraft industry for Douglas Aircraft (later McDonald Douglas) for 38 years before his retirement in 1978. He never lost his love of talking about airplanes to anyone who would listen. He married his wife, lone, in June 1940 in Garnett, KS. They lived in Hawthorne and Mojave before moving to Lancaster in 1953. My dad's first love was his family, second was airplanes and third was traveling. In 1987 he won a round trip to Switzerland. That turned into a month's vacation traveling through Germany, Italy, Australia and Switzerland. Although he loved traveling through the Macular Degeneration he still enjoyed traveling. He also loved animals; mainly those of the tail wagging variety. He was very proud of his German heritage. For many years he was a regular at the Lancaster Senior Center along with his friend, Karin Diggle. He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, lone and his wife of 18 years, Jeanie. He was also predeceased by his brothers, John, Frank, Paul, and Henry and sisters, LaVergne and Frances. He is survived by his daughter Dianne Schuster-Grooms of Salinas, CA. He is also survived by his brother Carroll "Mike" of Meza, AZ and his sister Margaret of Orange, CA and many nieces and nephews. You will be missed Dad. Contributions can be made to charity of your choice. A special thank you to all Seasons Hospice for their assistance.
