Ardie Mae Young (Mother Young/A.M.Y.) was born on March 22, 1934, in Shorter, Alabama. She was the third of seven children born to Vandy James and Lois Robinson. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Willie Van Robinson and Johnny Van Robinson; and sisters, Mattie Pearl Washington, Sadie Mae Sears, Mary Powell, and Sarah Ballard.
She was formally educated in Shorter, where she met and married James Edward Davis in 1954.
James and Ardie migrated to Los Angeles, California. From their union were born five children: James Edward Davis, Jr., Edward O’Neal Davis, Patricia Davis Bozarth (Paul), Felicia Davis Jackson (David), and Vicki Davis Gafford (Thomas).
After the dissolution of marriage with James, Ardie met and married Y.O. Young in 1976. Y.O. preceded her in death on June 24, 1990.
Ardie worked diligently as a full-time mother to train her five children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. A God-fearing woman and a born teacher, she made sure that her children learned about God through church attendance and bible stories in the home. She was also certified and worked part-time as a teacher’s aide and was an accomplished seamstress providing services to her family, friends, and community. Ardie was intimately known as Mother Young in church circles and A.M.Y. to close friends. She received Christ as her personal savior in 1979 and served at several churches: Mount Olive Church of God in Christ, San Diego, CA; North Park Apostolic Church, San Diego, CA; Love & Unity Church of God in Christ, Compton, CA, with her final place of worship at Straightway Missionary Baptist Church, California City, CA.
Mother Young truly loved God and shared that love with her family and friends. She always had a warm smile and encouraging word for the disheartened. Mother Young always answered her phone by saying, “Jesus Loves You, hello,” and would end the call with, “Be Sweet and Say Your Prayers!” Mother Young often quoted Psalm 23 and it was not unusual to hear her singing, “He Came All the Way from Heaven Down (Just to Save a Wretch Like Me).”
Mother Young left this present life to live eternally with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Left to cherish her memory are her five children and their spouses, 13 grandchildren, Kiyana Kiel (Marcus), LaToya Gallovich (Raymond), Derrick Davis-Briggs, Michelle Pennington, Jessica Bethany, Daniel Davis, LaShondra Drew, Marcus Pennington, Blake Davis, Eric Davis, Elysha Davis, Quinton Davis, and LaKima Davis; 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
