

Leslie P. Jenkins Sr. was born to the union of Felix and Savannah Barnes Jenkins in Houston, Texas on July 8, 1944. Leslie was educated in the public schools of Dickinson, Texas and was a graduate of Dunbar High School. He furthered his education by attending Prairie View A&M University. Being reared in a Christian home, Leslie accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and united with Mount Olive Baptist Church in Dickinson. He was employed at JOC Oil Company and Solutia @ Chocolate Bayou where he retired after 20 years of service. In his leisure time, Leslie loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and refurbishing race cars. He was the mechanic and the painter and loved to race them too. He was a member of NHRA Racing Association. Continuing his walk with the Lord he later united with Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church in Hitchcock under the pastoral leadership of Pastor William L. Randall, Jr. On Saturday, September 26, 2015, God called Leslie home to rest. He is preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Savannah Jenkins; his son, Jamahl LaTee "Woggie" Jenkins; step-son, Marcus Thompson; sisters, Bobby Jean Barnett and Gertrude Rollins; and brothers, Chester Jenkins, J. D. Jenkins, Merland Jenkins and Goree Jenkins. Left to cherish memories of his life are his devoted wife, Jean Jenkins; his children, Andre B. Jenkins and wife, Rosalyn Jenkins, Princess Jenkins and Leslie P. Jenkins Jr.; step-childen, Ronald Sam and wife, Zelda Sam, Rev. Keith Sam and wife, Kimberly Sam, LaRhonda Sam and Raphael Thompson; three grandchildren whom he reared as his own, Delante Sam, Kaneshia Sam and Darius Geters; sister, Irene Goffney and husband, George Goffney; brothers, R. D. Jenkins and wife, Ruby Jenkins, Morris P. Jenkins and wife, Dr. Annette Jenkins and Otis Jenkins and wife, Roberta Jenkins; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.
