Jodie Davis Edwards was born April 21, 1937 in Tyler, Texas to the parentage of Joseph Davis and Alberta Lee Davis. Jodie was educated in the public schools of Tyler, Texas and was a 1952 graduate of Emmitt Scott High School. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and united and was baptized at Bethel Temple Church of God in Christ by her grandfather, the late Bishop S. D. Lee. She met and married the love of her life Willie George Edwards. This union was blessed with 3 children. The family later moved to Galveston County and she attended St. Mary’s College where she received her certificate as a Laboratory Technician. She was employed at UTMB Hospital in Galveston, Texas for 28 years until her retirement. She was a member of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church in Texas City under the pastoral leadership of Pastor D. N. Benford, Sr. She was an active member of the Missionary Society. On the morning of August 2, 2016, God called His child, Jodie, home to her eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Alberta Davis; her husband, Willie George Edwards and son, Gregory Allen Edwards. Left to celebrate her legacy are her children Janice Edwards Bryant and Rufus Edwards; her grandchildren, Brandon Bryant, Ryan Bryant, Terrick Edwards and Dylan Edwards; great-granddaughter, Bailee Walker; two sisters, Patricia Richardson and husband, Oscar Richardson and Bertha Chadwick and husband, Edward T. Chadwick; two brothers, Charles Davis and wife, Debra Davis and James Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
