The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and he delighteth in his way. The steps of Deacon Lonnie Phillips Jr. began on July 25, 1926 in West Columbia, Texas. He was born to the union of Lonnie Phillips Sr. and Madora Jackson Phillips. He began his formal education in the public schools of Brazoria County, Texas. At an early age he accepted Christ and was baptized at St. Paul AME Church in West Columbia, Mound Creek Community, Texas. On February 12, 1951, Lonnie united in marriage to the love of his live, Edith Marie Davenport. Together they made their home in Texas City and reared their family. Continuing his walk with the Lord, he united with Greater Bell Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Texas City under the leadership of the late Pastor Wiley L. Dunn, Sr. He worked diligently in the church serving as a Deacon of the church, member of the Sr. Usher Board, Brotherhood and as Treasurer of the Church. Lonnie was a dedicated 50+ year member of La Marque Masonic Lodge #373 F&AM Prince Hall Affiliation in Texas City where he served in various offices. Bro. Phillips began his career at Union Carbide in Texas City where he worked in Security until his retirement. On Wednesday, August 10, 2016 the earthly steps of Deacon Lonnie Phillips Jr. ended when he answered the call of his Heavenly Father in La Marque, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Madora and Lonnie Phillips, Sr.; his beloved wife, Edith Marie Phillips; his sons, Lance Ervin Phillips and Johnnie Ray Henderson; his sister, Odie Lee Johnson and brothers, Nelva Phillips and Wiley Phillips Sr. Left to celebrate memories of his life are his children, Ava Feliece “Lisa” Phillips and Kevin Campbell; brothers, Feliz Phillips and wife, Alma Phillips and Lorenzo Phillips and wife, Hilda Phillips; loving and beloved nieces, Charmaine Shannon Fulton and husband, Alex, Iesha Williams and Natalie Williams; 15 grandchildren; and a host of family members, his Greater Bell Zion Church Family, Masonic Brothers and many friends.
