VITO “THE BARBER” IMPERIALE , age 88, of LAKEWOOD passed away on Tuesday July 26th 2011 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, NJ. Vito was born and raised in Bronx, NY and some time in Sicily, he had been a resident of Lakewood for the past 61 years. Vito served in the 11th Airborne Division “The Angles” in the Pacific Theater of operations as a paratrooper in the Army during WWII. After the war, he obtained his Barber’s license in Brooklyn, NY and opened his first shop in1953 in NY then moved to Rt. 9, Lakewood at the Todd Plaza in 62’and then moved to the Rt. 9 and Finchley Blvd. where it stands to this very day. Vito was a volunteer member of the Special Police of Lakewood for the Civil Defense Corps for years, as well as the Founder of the Lakewood DAV Chapter #50 which he was the Commander of, he also was the Commander of the CWV of St. Mary of the Lake Chapter #1875 in Lakewood, as well as was a life member of the VFW, American Legion Post #166, and an active member of the Regular Republican Club of Lakewood for years. Pre-deceased by his daughter Evelyn Imperiale-Morano. Survived by his wife Elvira, and daughter Jeanette Imperiale, five grandchildren Jennifer Gainer and her husband Jack, Eileen Kull and her husband George, Robert Lloyd and his wife Cye, Naomi Chidester and Kimberly Chidester, four great-grandchildren Brittany, Canon, Gillian and Jackson. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 31 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at D’Elia Funeral Home Rt. 70 & Vermont Ave; Lakewood, NJ 08701. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday August 1st at 10:30am, at St. Mary of the Lake Church, 43 Madison Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. Interment will follow, St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood, NJ.
