Ronald was born on October 13, 1936 in Neptune, New Jersey. He graduated from Lakewood High School in 1954 where he played basketball and ran track. He broke the school’s high jump record which lasted for many years. After graduation he was employed by Mohel and Vogel CPA’s. He attended night school at Monmouth College and graduated with a B.S. in Accounting. Shortly thereafter, in 1968 he became a fellow with the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Son of the late Francis Willis Tilton and Peter Vogel. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria May Vogel. She was the love of his life and High School sweetheart. He is the father to Jeffrey R. Vogel of Sea Bright, N.J. and Glenn K. Vogel of Manasquan N.J. He is also survived by his two brothers Martin "Wayne" Vogel of Brooks, ME. and Peter Vogel III of Toms River, N.J. and granddaughter Allison Mae Vogel of Manchester, N.J. and his cherished dog, Lucy.
He served in the New Jersey National Guard as a tank commander and chef and was active in many civic, professional and charitable organizations. He was a member and past president of the Lakewood Rotary Club and Paul Harris Fellow, Lakewood Zoning Board, Greenville Cemetery Association Trustee, Lakewood Industrial Park Commissioner, Lakewood Little League Treasurer, Chairman of Leadership Giving – United Way of Ocean County, Wall Township Four Season Finance Committee and founding Board Member of Garden State Bank.
His awards included “Citizen of the Year” by the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Council of Ocean County and the “Resident of the Year” Award for distinguished and outstanding service to the community. He was an avid surfcaster, philatelist, as well as a passionate golfer and charter member of the Eagle Oaks Country Club in Farmingdale, N.J., where he won multiple club championships.
But above all he was a devoted husband and father who loved just being with his family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at D'Elia Funeral Home 1300 Vermont Ave, Lakewood, N.J. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately.
