Robert J Niemic

Robert Niemic , 73, of Jackson , New Jersey , formerly a resident of Washington DC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Care One Harmony Village. Born in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania , Robert ( Bob) was the son of the late Lucy (Iwanowski) and Zigmund Niemiec . After graduating from Saint Leo High School in Ashley, Bob became a mathematics major at King’s College in Wilkes barre, PA where he graduated in 1972. He was recruited by the IRS to work in Washington DC as an analyst and planning officer. Bob believed in continuing his education while he worked, and he earned a MPA degree at George Washington University in 1977 and a Juris Doctor at Georgetown Law School in 1985. Bob enjoyed working as a lawyer at a private law practice Bell, Boyd & Lloyd and in 1993, he accepted a senior Attorney position for the Federal Judicial Center in Washington DC until his retirement.

With his professional expertise in dispute resolution and mediation, Bob authored many books on dispute resolution, published numerous articles in professional journals on mediation and traveled extensively to lecture on these topics. He was involved in and supported organizations that advocated for the protection of human and civil rights and marriage equality. He also volunteered his time to resolving local homeowners association issues.

In his free time, Bob enjoyed world travel, biking, skiing, surfing, and music. Surviving are his loving sister Marsha Wydra and her husband, Fred Wydra, of Toms River, NJ , his niece Lisa Wydra and her husband Vincent Lodato, their adult children Madelyn Lodato and Gabe Lodato, his nephew Dr. Eric Wydra and wife Jennifer Wydra.Funeral arrangements are by D’Elia Funeral home, Lakewood NJ with a private memorial service to follow and interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township, PA.

Bob will be missed by his caring family and friends who watched over him during his lengthy illness. A Special thank you goes out to the dedicated staff of Harmony Village, Jackson and Ascend Hospice.
