Robert was born in New York, NY on May 28, 1928 as the son of Jane and Joseph Murphy. He soon moved to Limerick, Ireland where he was raised. Robert returned to the U.S. in 1945 and resided in New York and Livingston, NJ, before moving to Lakewood. He was a professional welder who had retired from his position at the Hyatt Roller Bearing company in Clark, NJ. He served in the U.S. Army during the latter part of World War II. Robert was a bit of a home handyman who enjoyed working on projects around his house and on his cars in the driveway.
Robert is survived by his wife Rosemary; his children, Jean Marie Murphy and Barbara Ann Murphy-Lalic; three grandchildren, Jeannine, Eileen, and Anthony; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Alexander, Anna, and Logan; and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 26, 2021, in the D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701 with a private committal service following at the St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery Mausoleum-Mary Queen of Peace, One Honey Locust Drive, Lakewood, NJ 08701. NJ Pandemic guidelines for wearing masks, social distancing, and limiting building capacity will be observed.
