Maria L. Rau age 76 of Berkeley Township NJ, died Thursday, May 16, 2019. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret Hinchey. She moved to Ocean County in 1972 where she became an active parishioner of St. Mary of the Lake in Lakewood, NJ. She was a longtime member of the Rosary Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for whom she was the current State Regent. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul, who died in 2000; her sister-in-law, Betty and sister-in-law Kathy. Maria is survived by her loving daughter, Jennifer Rau and partner Steven Dunayer; along with her beloved grandson Sam of Manhattan. Blessed to be part of a large supportive family, she is also survived by her five brothers, William, James, Thomas, Richard, and Donald Hinchey; her sisters-in-law, Roseann, Elaine, Kathleen, Sue, and Lori; her brother-in-law Richard Rau and his wife Jan; and her nephews, nieces and dear cousins. Relatives and friends will be received on Monday, May 20, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 1143 E. County Line Road, Lakewood, NJ 08701. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. in the church. Entombment will be private at a later date in the St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery Mausoleum, Lakewood, NJ.
