Born in South Bend, Ind., Margaret completed the secretarial program at South Bend College of Commerce. She worked as executive secretary to the general manager of Maas Brothers department store in St. Petersburg, Fla., and then as cashier in the advertising department of the St. Petersburg Times.
After moving to New Jersey, Margaret lived in Red Bank, then Bradley Beach, and moved to Wall Township in 1997. She worked as a word-processing specialist for the law firm of Kordes, Clayton, Ambrose & Georgetti in Brielle for 17 years, retiring in 1997. After retirement, Margaret was a volunteer for 15 years at the Visiting Nurse Association Thrift and Consignment Shop in Manasquan.
Margaret loved reading mysteries and watching British detective series. She also had a discerning eye for thrift store and flea market treasures like furniture and jewelry. She was especially fond of sterling silver jewelry, and she'd jingle when she wore an armful of silver bangle bracelets. In the early 1990s, Margaret took beading classes and created beautiful necklaces as gifts for friends and family. Margaret's creativity extended to performing as well. She had a lovely singing voice and sang and acted in musicals during high school. She and her husband Ed also acted in several community theater productions in St. Petersburg. Margaret adopted a saying of her mother Carolyn's: “Things have a way of working out." It became our family motto as well.
Margaret is predeceased by her parents, Edward and Carolyn Berg; her sister, Nancy Doyle; and her husband of 64 years, Edward J. Meehan. She is survived by her children Maryanne Pazienza, John Meehan, Elizabeth Meehan, and Jennifer Terrell (Rich). She is also survived by grandchildren Caity, Bryan, Kelsey, Christian, Noah, and Kylie; step grandchildren Jessica, Alissa, and Louis; great-grandson Steven; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will gather privately for a celebration of life. Margaret will be laid to rest at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown alongside her husband, Ed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey Foundation would be appreciated: https://www.vnahg.org/gifts-from-individuals.
The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful caregivers and personnel at Manor by the Sea and Homeside Hospice for their exceptional care during Mom’s final months.
