He married the love of his life, Virginia on November 22, 1956 in a Thanksgiving Day ceremony. She predeceased him in 2020. Lowell became a father to his daughter Kathleen, in September 1958 and spent many years with Virginia raising her in Bergenfield, NJ and Closter, NJ.
Lowell worked as a teacher at Hackensack High School and was a Bergen County Coaches Association Special Award Winner in 1990. In retirement, he enjoyed working with his wife at Six Flags Great Adventure. He retired to Toms River, NJ and then to The Villages, FL, returning to NJ after the birth of his great- granddaughter, Hailey.
Lowell took on the role of grandfather when Christopher Roessler was born in 1983. Two other grandchildren followed; Nicole Teixeira in 1985 and Kyle Roessler in 1994.
Lowell loved camping, originally pulling a small trailer and later driving an RV. He had adventures all over the US. He particularly held a grudge when the family left for a trip on his birthday and everyone forgot it was his day.
He was an excellent bowler. The curve of the ball when he threw it down the lane was impressive. He was a fair golfer and although he obviously enjoyed the game, it was apparent he was never going to achieve anything remotely close to professional status.
Lowell is predeceased by his parents, Walter and Margaret Smith, a brother Royce and sister Jeanette, and his wife Virginia. He is survived by his daughter Kathleen Roessler (Toms River, NJ) grandson Christopher Roessler (Hatfield, PA), granddaughter Nicole (and Anthony) Teixeira (Toms River, NJ) Kyle (and Karina) Roessler (Brooklyn, NY), and great grandchildren Hannah, Hailey and Aria.
He was a one of a kind and will be missed by all those who loved and knew him.
