

Loretta A. Smith, 85, passed away October 6, 2013 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Mrs. Smith was born and spent most of her life in Staten Island before retiring with her husband to Dunellon FL for a few years before finally settling in Toms River for the past 16 years. She was a graduate of Curtis High School where she was a cheerleader and is currently a member of the Alumni Association. Mrs. Smith worked for the New York Foreign Exchange before settling down and raising a family. Loretta was very active with the St. Charles Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister for many years. She was the proud mother of six children, ten grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt and will be greatly missed by all. Mrs. Smith is predeceased by her husband, Richard, daughter and grandson, Karen and Daniel Schiano. Loretta is survived by her five children, Robert Smith and his wife Diane, Joanne Smith, Dianne Bastone and her husband William, Raymond Smith and Carol Ward and her husband Robert, nine grandchildren, Matthew, Christina, Alexandra, Victoria, Kerianne, Michelle, Jennifer, Ryan and Rebecca, great granddaughter, Lily, son-in-law, Nick Schiano and three nieces, Anne, Susan and Jane. Friends may call Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the D’Elia Funeral Home Rt. 70 & Vermont Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 10:15AM at the St. Charles’s Church in Staten Island. Interment will take place at Cemetery of the Resurrection in Staten Island, NY. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Loretta’s memory to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
