Joanne S. Madden

Joanne was the daughter of Eugene and Lola (Merydith) Schmidt . Born in East Orange , N.J. in 1932 and raised in Maplewood , N.J. , she attended Columbia High School .

In 1954, Joanne graduated with honors from Skidmore College, Saratoga, N.Y. with a major in business and a minor in accounting. Her yearbook described her perfectly - "limitless talents, a hearty laugh, and beautiful black hair." She remained very active in & loved organizing her Skidmore Reunions for many years.

After moving to the shore area , raising 5 children and being a self declared lover of "figures", Joanne began an amazing 30 year career in finance at the age of 47 . She started as the bookkeeper for Brielle and treasurer of Lavalette . With almost 27 years with the Borough of Manasquan , Joanne retired in 2008 as Chief Financial Officer .

Joanne loved to have fun , play games and travel , especially to Aruba ! Her motto was

"live , laugh , love "

Joanne's independence, positivity and strength showed us anything is possible ! Her trademark "Smiley Face" captured her spirit so well and she will be forever missed .

She is survived by her children: Steven (Christine) Madden of Bayville, N.J. ; William (Terry) Madden of Eatontown, N.J. ; Terri (Robert) Zollinger of Orlando , Fl. ; Thomas (Jill) Madden of St. Augustine , Fl. ; her daughter-in-law Lynn Madden of Tinton Falls ,N.J. ; 10 grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren.

Joanne was preceded in death by her oldest son, Michael Madden of Ocean Township.

A memorial service will take place at D'elia Funeral Home , Route 70, Lakewood , N.J on Wednesday , July 27, 2022. from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 PM, all are welcome to attend .

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be scheduled at a later date .
