James Vincent McCarthy, age 82, of Lakewood, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at the Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, NJ. James was born May 12, 1939 in Queens, New York as the son of the late Gertrude (Walz) and Vincent McCarthy. James had a career in law enforcement before retiring as a Police Detective from the Suffolk County Police Department. He served in the United States Navy.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (Leitch) McCarthy; his children, James McCarthy (Christina) and Tracey Scialfa (Angelo); his four sisters Anita Bilello, Lynn Ricciardi, Judy Alamo, and Gail DeFede; and four grandchildren, Victoria Scialfa, Selena Scialfa, Madison McCarthy and Jillian McCarthy.
Visitation will be at at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701 on Monday, February 14th from 2 to 6 p.m. and on Tuesday, February 15th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 15th. James will be cremated privately and later laid to rest in BG William C. Doyle New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, New Jersey 08562.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or to the Wounded Warriors Project.
