She was born on August 30, 1934 in Lakewood, NJ to Percy and Marion Johnson of Jackson, NJ. She married her loving husband, Henry M. Gibson on September 25, 1954, celebrating over 63 years of marriage.
Helen was a 60 year resident of Jackson Township and graduated Lakewood High School in 1952. For many years she was a member of the Jackson First Aid Ladies Auxiliary. Following graduation, she was employed by Bell Telephone in the days of switchboards. She spent 27 years working at the Captain’s Inn in Forked River. Along with her husband, Henry, and her brother, Richard and his wife Pat, they established Butterfly Campground in Jackson. They spent 27 years as owners and operators. Following Henry’s retirement, they moved to Lake Ridge in Toms River, New Jersey.
Helen enjoyed her weekly Mah-Jongg games, the Garden Club at Lake Ridge, the winter season at their home in Ft. Myers, Florida and was an avid Mets fan. Helen will be missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Helen is survived by her loving husband, Henry; two children, Kathleen, and her son, Keith and his wife Lynne; four loving granddaughters, Margo Maas; Meghan and husband Jason Nutche; Nicole Gibson; and Jillian and husband Matthew Lorefice; two great-grandchildren, Mia Gibson and Kaleb Maas. Helen is also survived by her siblings, Peggy Johnston, brother Richard Johnson and wife Pat, and sister Edna Gabler and husband Larry. Helen also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Also left behind is her beloved Shih Tzu, Gizmo.
A visitation will be held Thursday 10:00 am to Noon, at D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood. Funeral Service to immediately follow. Interment, St. Mary of the lake cemetery, Lakewood.
