George H. Schmitt

George H. Schmitt, 87, passed away May 9, 2017 at Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, NJ. Mr. Schmitt was born and raised in Staten Island NY, before moving to Livingston and various countries abroad, Japan, Bahrain and Jeddah to mention a few before settling in Toms River, NJ for the past 12 years. He was married in 1957 to his late wife Shirley Ludwig of Newark and in 1984 he retired from the Irving Trust Company as the Vice President. He joined the Masonic Organization while in Japan and served as an active member in the Livingston, NJ Post. He was an avid Bingo Caller and spending time with is loving family. He was a loving father, grandfather and brother and will be greatly missed by all. Mr. Schmitt is survived by his daughter Melissa Pomerene and her husband Andrew, grandchildren, Heather, Austen and Paige and sister, Marion Canary. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 22, 2017 from 10AM-12PM at the D’Elia Funeral Home 1300 Vermont Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 12PM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
