Emily A. Writer

She was born September 1, 1928, in the Bronx, New York. She was the second child of Emily (nee Power) and William O’Keeffe. She had six sisters and one brother (the youngest).

At an early age, her family moved to Elmhurst Queens, New York where she grew up. She graduated from Newton High School in 1946.

She was employed as an administrative assistant by the American Tobacco Company in Manhattan, NY in 1948 and retired in 1986.

She married John David "Jack" Writer in 1970 and moved to Morrisville, PA in 1973. They retired to the Lake Ridge community in 1997 and later to Harrogate in Lakewood, NJ in 2017.

She was very proud of her Irish heritage and witnessed a large number of St. Patrick’s Day Parades.

She was Aunty Em to twenty-eight nieces and nephews, always willing to help out when needed.

A visitation for Emily will be held Monday, April 7, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. A funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 9:15 AM at St Luke's Church located at 1674 Old Freehold Rd, Toms River, New Jersey 08755. Interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery Farmingdale, NY 11735, where Emily will join her parents and her sister Una.
