Edwin R. Brandt, age 80, of Lakewood, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at the Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood, NJ. Born in Lakehurst, NJ, he was a lifelong resident of Lakewood. Mr. Brandt was a former member of the US Army from 1954-1956. Edwin attended West Virginia Technical Institute and graduated from Rutgers University with a Masters Degree in Education Administration. Mr. Brandt was a former football coach for Ewing High School and East Brunswick High School. He was a Teacher, Head Football Coach, and Athletic Director for the Lakewood Board of Education spanning the years of 1960 -1994. He was fiercely devoted and a valued mentor to all of his former players. Edwin was Co-founder, Former President, and an inductee into the Lakewood High School Athletics Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Lakewood B.P.O.E. 1432 and the NJ State Directors of Athletics. Predeceased by his son Edwin S. Brandt in July of 2010, he is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Joan; a daughter, Kathi Donner and her husband Bruce of Berkeley Heights, NJ; a son, Neil Brandt and his wife Sandra of Wantage, NJ; a sister, Barbara Charney of Ohio; five grandchildren, Lindsey, Brian, Jodi, Quinn, and Matthew; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 12 to 2 p.m. at the D’Elia Funeral Home, Rte 70 & Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. His funeral ceremony will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Edwin R.
