Edmund August “Eddy” Balzer II, age 88, of Toms River passed away the morning of April 28 while resting comfortably in his hospital room at the Ocean Medical Center. Born on October 22, 1934 in Jersey City to Edmund Sr. and Helen Balzer, he grew up in Hoboken. There he learned the electrical trade from his father, converting many gas light fixtures to electric. He was drafted into the Army in 1957, and he joined the Corps of Engineers. After he completed his tour of duty, in 1959 Eddy married his fiancee Marilyn Faresich of Union City and they had two children; Ed and Lorraine. Eddy and Marilyn lived in Union City, then in 1967 moved to “the country”, living in Old Bridge until he retired from Ford Motor Company in 1997. They loved to travel, and until recently spent a couple months every winter in Myrtle Beach. At their Lakeridge community in Toms River, Eddy won several trophies for billiards and bocce. His favorite musician was Hank Williams, he loved the Green Bay Packers, and their favorite restaurant was the Sawmill at Seaside. Eddy is survived by his sister Marilyn Stipkovich, his son Edmund III and his wife Aniko, his daughter Lorraine Ferraro and her husband Raymond, nine grandchildren Elizabeth, Rachel, Edmund IV, Andrew, Matthew, Nicholas, Emrys, Anika, Ronan, and great granddaughter Lilianna. Relatives & friends will be received on Sunday, May 7, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701, followed by a memorial service at 2:30 PM in the funeral home.
