Edith Catherine (Terhune) Westphal, 93, of Lakewood, NJ passed away peacefully on May 23, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Robert F. Westphal; her parents, Marion and Augustus J. Terhune; and her brother, Augustus R. Terhune. Edith is survived by her siblings, James Terhune, Marion Alfano, and Kenneth Terhune and his wife Maria. She is also survived by her son, Robert S. Westphal and his wife Martha; and her two daughters, Susan Nordyk and Lorraine Stone. She is lovingly remembered by her many grandchildren, Jennifer, Robert, Kaylee, Krista, Heather, and Autumn; and great-grandchildren, Gianna, Ethan, Ella and Rielle.
Edith was born in Hackensack, NJ and met her future husband Robert when she was 15 years old. She worked in Manhattan as a secretary and married her sweetheart upon his return from the European battlefield of World War II. They purchased their first home in Saddle Brook, NJ in 1957. In that quiet little town, they raised their three children. After retirement, Edie and Bob enjoyed many wonderful vacations together, traveling both nationally and internationally. Edie loved cats, roses, chocolate covered cherries, and anything pink!
A wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, Edith will be missed by all whose lives she touched. We thank God for the gift of her life and the time we spent with her.
Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, in the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue (at Route 70), Lakewood, NJ 08701. Relatives and friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at a later date in the BG William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
