Born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, he travelled back and forth to the US with his Jockey father as a child. He moved to the states in 1940 and resided in Lakewood before settling in Toms River 46 years ago.
Prior to retiring in 1997, he worked for New Jersey Natural Gas Company in Lakewood as a service man, where he was employed for 34 years. After retiring, he enjoyed working as an usher for the Lakewood BlueClaws.
A proud Veteran, he served in both the U.S. Naval Reserves and later, the U.S. Army. Douglas was also a member of the American Legion and the Knights of the Columbus.
Surviving is his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy; 2 sons: Douglas J. and his wife Jan of Powder Springs, GA, and Jeffrey D. and his wife Stacy of Jackson; one granddaughter, Zoe; a sister, Laurel Lecuyer of Naples, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9PM. An 8:30PM service will be held in conjunction with the visitation.
