Daniel K. Hadley, age 46, of Burlington, NJ passed from this life on March 23, 2011. Born in Neptune, NJ, his original surname was Daniel Shor, and it was changed in 1978 to Hadley after being adopted by Roy L. Hadley. He spent most of his life in Lakewood, NJ, later moving to Long Beach Island, where his love of fishing and clamming became all too apparent. He attended Lakewood High School for three years before moving to Stafford, NJ, and graduated from Southern Regional High School. He played football from Pop Warner through High School, and was a talented and fierce fullback. He attended Ocean County College before ultimately deciding to enlist in the US Navy. He served upon the USS Flint as FN 1st Class, and sailed around the world. He twice crossed the equator and received the “Shellback” card in recognition of the accomplishment. He was a huge sports fan, and the exclamation, “Go Giants” is self explanatory. Danny loved life to the fullest and is remembered as a fun loving happy guy. However, he also recently struggled with an overwhelming sadness that he was unable to shake, and he finally succumbed to it. He was incredibly close to his son Daniel, and as “best buds,” they raced dirt bikes competitively throughout the Northeast. He is mourned by his survivors who include his 17 year old son Daniel J. Hadley; his parents, Carol (Thompson) and Roy Hadley; his four brothers, Scott Hadley (Dolores), David Hadley (Josette Aremini), Randy Hadley (Pam) and Michael R. Hadley (Theresa); a cousin Leonard Nieves, Sr.; a maternal grandmother, Sarah Thompson who instilled in him beliefs and values and love; his maternal aunt, Shelia Pickell and her son & daughter in law, Lee and Corinne Pickell who were all influential and a loving presence in his life; his paternal aunt and uncle, Lynne and Bill Walker; his nieces and nephews, Matthew, Brittany, Connor, Shane, and Joia; his other dear cousins, Leonard Nieves, Jr., Kimberly Nieves, Andrea Irizzary and her son Christopher, and James C. Walker & and his fiance Michelle Trotter. He was predeceased by his infant sister Christine Marie Hadley in 1978; his paternal grandfather, Roy H. and step-grandmother Emma Hadley in 2001 and 2005; his paternal grandmother Edna Hadley in 1969, and his maternal grandfather Howard D. Thompson in 1984. His funeral ceremony will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2011 at the D’Elia Funeral Home, Rte. 70 & Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ. Deacon Michael Stinsman, his sister-in-law Theresa’s father, will officiate. Anyone wishing to attend with open hearts and minds are welcome. The ceremony will be followed by a committal service at the Ocean County Memorial Park Crematory. His son will scatter a portion of his cremated remains at their favorite fishing spot, and his family asks for prayer for this boy as he will be missing his father who was a best friend and outstanding Dad. A portion of his cremated remains will be interred in beautiful spot under a tree alongside his late baby sister Christine and his late grandmother Edna Hadley in the family plot at Ocean County Memorial Park.
