I would like to send my sincere sympathy to sally barberas sister and family. I have just today discovered barberas passing. I am a member of the casey family from Shinglis ballymore Co Westmeath ireland - a 3rd cousin of barberas whom we met on a few occasions at family gatherings at Maynooth college. If it is possible for someone to pass on my details to sally or Karen I’d love to reconnect. With my sincerest condolences. I learned today of the death of Barbara from a friend who noticed the news on a face book posting.   

Her funeral Mass and interment took place yesterday, July 21st, and to be sure we would have been there to honor this unforgettable woman.   The photo chosen for her memorial page is indeed the person that we remember so well with her friendly, gentle easy smile.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her sister, Sally, her brother in law, Bob, sister in law Karen and her nieces and nephews;  all names of those who were dear to her heart and of whom she spoke  frequently. 

Barbara was first introduced to us by her uncle and our benefactor, Mr. Thomas Casey, whose name graces a state- of -the- art school on the campus of Mercyfirst, a venture made possible by his generous financial support.   Barbara was a devoted and faithful niece who helped her uncle manage life in his declining years.   Barbara became a well respected member of our Board of Directors and a benefactor in her own right.   Not only did her philanthropy benefit the lives of the young people in our care but we were blessed with sharing a rich personal friendship with her.

Know that we will hold Barbara in our hearts and we will pray for her peaceful rest and joy with the God whose people she served and who grew and flourished because of her goodness.

 Dear Members of the Board of the IEDF, 
 It is with great sorrow that I share with you the news of the death of Dr Barbara Gannon, Chair of the Board of the IEDF. Barbara was a long, generous and loyal friend of St Patrick’s College, Maynooth and wonderful chair of the IEDF. She regularly visited the College over the years and was always keenly engaged and interested in developments here. To all Barbara’s family and her close-knit circle of friends, the staff and students at St Patrick’s College extend our deepest sympathy and prayerful solidarity at this time. We also give thanks to God for her noble, humble and generous soul. I spoke with both Archbishop Dermot Farrell and Msgr Hugh Connolly who worked closely with Barbara over many years. They are united with the Board of the IEDF and the College in our sorrow and loss.  Barbara was an early and significant benefactor to the College’s development and refurbishment, allowing it to continue its vital mission of forming priests and laity for service and leadership in the Church in Ireland, as well as the Church across the English-speaking and developing world. But as many of you know, Barbara’s generosity and service extended to several Catholic charities, serving on the boards of Mercy First; Madonna Heights; St. Francis Hospital of Roslyn, to mention a few. Dr Gannon was awarded a doctorate and the Gold Medal of St Patrick from the Pontifical University Maynooth for her charitable service and philanthropic work. Barbara was an avid reader of history, especially the history of the American Civil War and Irish history. She was a gracious host and engaging and informed company. Our most recent conversation on the phone was last St Patrick’s Day. I understand from her sister Pat that her health decline significantly in the following months. Her passing is a huge loss to the Maynooth family in the US and Ireland. 

Barbara was always a very kind person.  She loved to laugh and I can hear her laughing now.  Barbara was truly generous with her time.  She gave in small simple ways by just listening.  She always thought of who she was with when she talked to people.   She also couldn’t talk enough about her nieces and nephews!  Barbara was a great woman and the world is a little less bright and less kind with her gone.  I send my love and condolences to her family.  I wish I could have been there with you.  

Barbara was such a kind, gentle and loyal person. She was a stalwart to those who knew her and always a source of wise and well-reasoned advice. She was so kind and generous to all the community at St Patrick's Maynooth Ireland

She was a woman of faith and that radiated in her generosity and goodness and kindness all of which I personally experienced from her in large measure.

You the friends and family and all the bereaved are in my thoughts and prayers at this sad time.

May the good Lord grant eternal rest to Barbara and may he grant you and all who mourn her passing his comfort and consolation.
