Salvador Fonseca Sanchez was born in Guanajuato, Mexico to Hipolito Fonseca and Sara Sanchez. His family owned a ranch in his home town, and that is where his life long love of horses began. When Salvador was 14 he came to Denver, Colorado. He met Maria Gonzales a few years later, and after falling deeply in love they were married several months later. Maria and Salvador were married for just about 40 years.
Salvador was easy going and really enjoyed hanging out at family get togethers. He loved the kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. They would never ceased to put a smile on his face. Family was something very important to him. When he came from Mexico there wasn't really a good way to contact any of his family there, and so his family in Denver became really special to him. When his children or grandchildren had a fundraiser at school, Salvador would make even the smallest amount of money work to give to them for their needs. And not just his children, he loved his nieces and nephews too, and was honored when his niece Carla got married, and he could be a witness. Faith was also very important to him, so he loved when he was asked to be the God Father to two of the little ones in his family. He also attended every baptism he could. He was very close with his family.
It usually sounded like a party and Salvador and Maria's because Salvador loved Spanish music. His favorite was Vincente Fernandez, but he had a special place for mariachi's too. He was also a fabulous cook, and while he wouldn't go fishing, he loved eating the fish that Lorenzo caught. Family will also remember him making the best salsa. He loved to cook, and family remembers each had their favorite special dish. In fact the grandchildren only wanted to eat something that grandpa had made, if grandpa had cooked it, not mom or dad. He was so proud of his Buick's, and his truck.
Salvador was very hard working, he made sure his wife was cared for always, making sure she was never hungry and had everything she needed. He would do all kinds of handyman work like laying tile, and carpeting to make extra money for his family. He was loyal and faithful to Maria, and a great dad to his sons. Towards the end he became more of a homebody, but still had his wits and worked to rally his strength to be there for his family. He will be deeply missed, but the lessons of love, giving and hardwork that he taught his children and grandchildren will be remembered for years to come.
Salvador is survived by his wife, Maria; sons, Tony, Lorenzo, and Jesse; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 10:30AM at New Hope Ministries, 875 South Sheridan Blvd. Lakewood, CO 80226.
