Had a good time running on coaches teams. In the off seasons, we road raced often. Great guy, coach, teacher, & mentor.

I highly respected Pat.  We were coaching rivals.  He was at Northglenn and I was at Thornton.  He was an amazing coach.  He got the most out of his runners and had great success.  I am a better coach today because I knew him.  We had the chance to see each other at the State track meet not that long before he passed.  We were able to catch up and reminisce.  Great guy.

Remembering our mate, Pat, who I spent a year with in Denver before he and Beverly spent a year in South Australia and we kept on catching up throughout the years. A great mate never forgotten.

One more memory and picture:  I saw Coach Amato at Mr. Mavrogianes' one summer (2014?) and had not seen Coach since he and Beverly attended my wedding in 2007.   In conversation I learned about the Pat Amato Classic race and I remember telling him how fantastic and well deserved it was to have a Cross Country race named in his honor!   He told me he had some T-shirts and that he would get me one sometime.  A full year later we all gathered at Mavro's again, and he brought the T-shirts!  Always showing us the same generous spirit he’d shown his XC team 30 years prior.

Thank you for the lifetime of memories, Coach.  Thanks for seeing in us what we often couldn't see in ourselves.  And thank you for your passion and calm guidance which helped so many of us learn to believe in ourselves.  

As a member of The Meadows Golf Club (TMGC) for over 20 years,  I and my family got to know Pat very well over the years - through both the Club as well as his continuous sharing of our Rockies tickets.  All of us at TMGC will deeply miss his easy-going friendship, camaraderie, smile, wit, and simply his presence as one of our special Honorary Decade Senior members.  His legacy and our memories of all the good times spent with him will never be forgotten.  Pat, rest peacefully and we will look to help carry on your kind spirit.  Until we meet again . . .

Pat was one of the first people I met at the Meadows Golf Club when I moved here 7 years ago.   My very first tournament I ever played there, Pat was on my team and made it a great day.   He always went out of his way to say hi at every single tournament since. His smile and energy will be greatly missed.   Deepest condolences to all of Pat's friends and family.   You will be missed.


I remember playing in the group behind Pat Amato when he made a hole-in-one.  I remember playing with Pat’s friend the day he holed out with a 3-wood, not a common event.  I remember when playing golf with Pat it was not a win-lose situation.  It was always a win-win situation.  We all remember his warm smile.
Some of us are approaching the back nine of life and some memories are fading.  I look forward to seeing Pat and his smile at the 19th hole again.  As Bob Hope always said – Thanks for the memories.

I ran Cross Country and Track for Coach Amato from 1981-84.  During that time, he helped me become one of the top distance runners in the state.  In 1983 he coached our girls' team to an undefeated regular season, a perfect score at districts, and a State Championship.  A feat matched by few teams past or present.  More importantly, he helped me believe in myself and through running, instilled the values of commitment and perseverance.
During the 1990's I coached at NGHS for a few seasons alongside Coach Amato.  His knowledge of the sport was unmatched.  He saw talent and potential in athletes they did not know they had.  He coached athletes to become their best and produced winning teams in the process.  
 During my adult years, we kept in touch.  He and Beverly came to my wedding. Coach Acheson and Coach Amato visited me in the hospital, when I was there for a 2 month stay for a high- risk pregnancy. I had the pleasure to introduce him to my son, at the Pat Amato Classic, when my son ran for Broomfield High School. And I enjoyed getting Coach Amato's Christmas letters telling of his travel adventures during his retirement.  
I look back on my running days with great fondness.  Lessons I learned and the people I met helped me through some challenging times as an adult.  Coach Amato had such a positive influence on my life.  Some of the friends I made on that team are still my closest friends today.  I am grateful.

Knowing Coach Amato and running for him absolutely changed my life.  The indelible sense of strength, achievement, focus, and teamwork learned during practices, races, and running up Fall River Road at the end of summer camp, instilled in me the certainty that I could accomplish anything in my life, as well as in my running. He had this powerful impact on so many. I was so very lucky and am so proud to have been one of his runners.

Our  hearts  break for Beverly and the Amato family. Pat was not only a true friend of everyone  his path crossed, but he was the Patriarch of the family, he was supposed to out live all of us!! My brother reminded me that Coach Amato came to our weddings. So I went looking and, sure enough, here's a photo - with the bonus that it includes Coach Hawk. 🙂  It's impressive Coach Amato - and his wife! - took that kind of time away from their weekends in support of former runners/students.  ❤

I will always remember my great American mate, Pat. We met in 1983 when I was on exchange to Northglenn High School from South Australia where I live.  Since that time we have kept in touch through visits, letters and phone calls. Pat had an exchange to Adelaide, South Australia in 1985 where we picked up where we left off. His friendship was greatly appreciated during a difficult time in my personal life at that time. Pat was quietly spoken and well respected and I admired what he achieved in his working life and found a great friend where we shared stories about our families, discussed our sporting teams successes and more often lack of success, holidays and the odd tall story. On our visits he was a great tour guide and even put up with my golfing prowess (or lack of it) when I showed him parts of golf courses he had never seen before. I will miss my great mate, our visits and phone calls. Rest In Peace Pat.        

Pat was a track and cross country coach that I knew and admired.  Pat’s teams at Northglenn were always very well coached and very competitive.   As the head coach at Regis High School I always looked forward to competing against Pat’s teams. I considered Pat a friend.  My prayers and thoughts to Pat and his family.

Coach Amato was my cross country and track coach as well as the coach to two of my other siblings.  He was such a caring person and an amazing coach!  I am so grateful that I was a part of his team and will never forget my years in cross country, especially cross country camp with him.  These were some of the most memorable times in my life.  I know he and Everett (Ach) are up in heaven sharing memories!  He will forever be remembered.  When I told my sister of his passing, she said that "he always had such kind eyes."  I pray that God brings peace and comfort to your family during this difficult time.

Mr.  Amato coached my brothers and I in track at Northglenn High school.   I have always remembered him as one of my favorite teachers.  

Coach Amato was a major influence in my life. Having never run before my senior year, coach invited my to XC camp between junior and senior year (1983) and developed me into one. Running helped form my naval career and has also led to completing 148 marathons to date. He saw the best in his students and got the best out of his runners! I'm sorry I never had the chance to reconnect with him after graduating. He will be sorely missed.

It was with such deep sorrow learning of Pat's  passing.  I will always hold the memories of our time in The Meadows Mens Club in my heart.  Pat was such an enormously great guy.   I could always get a laugh out of him.  He will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.  I was truly blessed to have him as my friend.  Rest in peace Pat. 

As a result of Coach Amato, Coach Bill Hawk, Don Burdeaux & a few others in my life such as Jim Jones of the Casper Troopers, Mrs Jim Jones, John Allen & Glen Yarberry (Music Teachers) kept me on the straight & narrow as far as physical health & my mental health  as well as a few other things. I spoke with all of them, especially Coach Amato & have had a solid career in mortuary science. Thanks To All & R.I.P.  Coach Amato & God Be With You

Pat was more than a coach, he was a teacher, and as a fellow teacher beginning at NGHS the same year, I appreciated and respected that.  Plus he was a good friend.  He will be sorely missed.  Unfortunately, we will be out of town for the service.

Coach Amato was friend & coach to many over the years. Really enjoyed running on his team's. 

Coach Amato always seemed to get the very best out of me.  Not sure what my life would have turned out to be if not for our paths crossing.

So hard to believe you left us so soon. You were always one we just assumed would be there forever. Such a great person and a lover of people. He could make every individual he spoke to feel like they were his favorite person. Our hearts ache. Love always Coach until we meet again!

My older sisters and I all ran Cross Country for Coach Amato at Northglenn High School... he had 9 years of Walshes on his teams and great impact on each of us.  I am forever thankful for the passion and energy Amato put behind the entire NGHS Cross Country program.  Thank you for spreading the passion to all of us, Coach... you will be deeply missed!

Pat and I were fierce competitors.  He coached at Northglenn and I coached at Thornton High School.  Pat was a superior coach.  He figured things out early on and knew how to coach kids.  He was as shrewd as you get in regards to getting the most out of his athletes.  I always enjoyed talking with Pat.  You knew the gears were always spinning when you talked with him. The victories against Pat were few and far between.  Once I edged him at the regional meet, he shook my hand but then the following week at the State meet where it really counted he beat us.  
 Oddly enough I just saw him at this year's State Track meet.   We both gave each other a double take.  He said I was the only person he recognized at the meet.  Always had that smile from ear to ear.  RIP Pat.
