Mary Alice Stubbs Burton, 92, of Lakewood, CO, passed away November 19, 2023. She was 1 of 10 children born in Panola County, Mississippi on January 25, 1931 to Roy and Dora Stubbs. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Melba Stubbs, Mildred McCreary, Lois Jones, Mattie Lou Few, Sherry Russell and brother, Roy Stubbs, Jr.
After attending business school in Texas, and after raising her children, she worked as a pharmacy technician in Colorado. She was very active in the First Southern Baptist Church of Denver when her children were young and continued to keep in touch with some of the members through the years.
Mary is survived by her children, Douglas Burton (Rene), Sharlene (“Gay”) Shockley, Beverly Mendicello (Ed), Sheila Burton, Debra Burton Orton (Rick), and Toni Stubbs aka Marilyn Gamboa; Mary is also survived by her grandchildren, Brandi Burton, Kevin Burton (Joy), Jeremiah Shockley, Kristina Burton, Kacie Hartsough, Matthew Haxmeier (Heather), Alexander Orton (Brittany), Jonathan Orton, Taylor Orton (“sleeping’), Amy Barras. Her great grandchildren are Ewan Burton, Imogen Burton, Alyssa Shockley, Krystal Shockley, Cayden Haxmeier, Colin Haxmeier, Amaya Orton, Gwendelyn Orton, Conlan Orton, David Orton, Matthew Orton, Layla Orton. Her surviving siblings are Frederick Stubbs (Jen), Erwin Stubbs (Bonnie), Camila Slack.
Mary was a Lifetime member of the Colorado Mineral Society; accomplished genealogist and a member of Ancestry, My Heritage, Clan Gregor Society, and the Daughters of the American Revolution Blue Spruce Chapter in Lakewood, Colorado. Mary was instrumental in helping establish Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument in Colorado.

A funeral service for Mary will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Applewood Baptist Church, 11200 W 32nd Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033, a reception will follow. Mary will be laid to rest at 1:00 PM at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 7777 West 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033. Serving as pallbearers are Matthew Haxmeier, Heather Haxmeier, Cayden Haxmeier, Colin Haxmeier, Alex Orton, Kacie Hartsough.
