June passed away unexpectedly on July 3, 2024 with her family by her side at the age of 84. She was born Nov 26,1939 in a small town of Estherville Iowa, to Ferdinand Herman Julius Lau of Huron S. Dakota and Marie Gertrude (England) Lau of Rockwell City, Iowa. Ferd was a trucker when she was born and Marie was a housewife yet became a nurse at age 40.
June graduated from Estherville high school, Estherville Iowa and Lutheran Bible Institute, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Many years later she attended Parks Junior College and graduated in 1991 with an associates degree of applied science in accounting and a minor in computer science.
June married Donald Leo Dodds on July 8,1962 and settled in Northglenn Colorado after Don got out of the army (he served at the El Paso, Texas base) where they lived with their 3 children until they later divorced, 1989 after 27 years of marriage.
June was one of 4 siblings and along with her 3 children she had 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. June is survived by her 3 children: Randal Dodds (wife Glynis, stepdaughter Jennifer and her husband Dan Nuqui and their children Abby and Anna), Amy (husband Erik and their sons Jarrett and Levi), Linette Duran (her daughter Mikayla Rodgers and granddaughter Leila).
She is also survived by her sister Betty McCart and her family; daughters Kim (husband Jack DeVries and their 2 children; Susie (husband Josh Christian and their two sons Ethan and Colton) and Benji DeVries (wife Megan) and Laura Hamilton (son David).
Her Brother Larry Lau (wife Linda) family; children Nancy (husband Danny McCall and 3 children Danny (wife Nicole), Tabitha and JJ) Rebecca (husband David Clark and their 2 children Stephanie (husband John Dawkins) and Rusty (wife Cassie O’Quinn) and Susan (husband David Rowell and their 2 children David (wife Kasey) and Dustin (wife Monica).
June was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Larry Lau and his wife Linda, and Nancy Lau, her nephew Tim McCart and great niece Jessica Hamilton.
She has always followed a faith-based path in her life. She had a strong love for God as her Lord and Savior. She started attending Mountain View Lutheran church approximately 49 years ago and remained a member until her death. She served in various roles including leadership as the church president for several of the last years, she did bookkeeping the last few years, on committees, in women’s groups, and bible studies over her many years there. She was a lifelong best friend to many and a compassionate person to all. She was also church mom to many over the years.
June enjoyed reading, visits with family and friends, she enjoyed making people smile with her quick wit, sewing, jewelry making and other crafts, sudoku, watching old movies, attending and helping at church and shopping.
A memorial service to celebrate June’s life will be held on Saturday August the 3rd at 11:00 at Mountain View Lutheran Church, Thornton Colorado. Luncheon to follow.
