Alice Emily Dowdy of Lakewood, CO, a strong woman of faith and service, was born December 4, 1937 in Amarillo, TX, to Henry August Buhrkuhl and Alice Hurst Rosser. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy H.S. and attended Amarillo College. Emily worked as a Hydrologist for the Bureau of Reclamation in Amarillo, TX, and Lakewood, CO. She retired at the end of September 1995. Emily attended Christ on the Mountain Catholic Church where she served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and participated in a women’s prayer group. She was a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She loved spending time with her family, camping, reading, and doing all sorts of crafts.
Emily is preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Bruce Dowdy, her parents, her brothers James Buhrkuhl and George Buhrkuhl, a granddaughter, Tara Dowdy, and great granddaughters Teresa Dowdy and Dixie Nagle.
She is survived by four daughters, LaDawn Morrell (Ray) of Palm Harbor, FL, Deborah Griesemer (Ken) of Albuquerque, NM, Robin Williams (Kelly) of Weatherford, TX, and Pam Aguado of Lakewood, CO; grandchildren William “Billy” Bruce Dowdy of Whiting, NY, Crystal O’Neill (K.C.) of Azle, TX, Charity Reinert (Jason Erickson) of Leander, TX, Kayla Williams of Denver, CO, Kelli Williams of Weatherford, TX, Tashi Aguado (Josh Nagle) of Lakewood, CO, and Jodi Griesemer (Ryan Valdez) of Albuquerque, NM; and 13 great grandchildren.
