Donna Marie Kinney was born May 24,1938, in Augusta, West Virginia to parents Robert and Stella Kinney. Donna was the second of four children: Avanell, Donna, Bobby, and Mary. She leaves behind several nieces and many friends. Donna's father was a preacher and this vocation moved the family around quite a bit. When Donna was young they finally ended up in Illinois in 1945.
Donna graduated from Greenville High School in Greenville, Illinois in 1956. After graduation Donna went to Lincoln Christian College from 1956 to 1961 and graduated with a BA in Christian education. In June 1962, she moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and worked with the Rocky Mountain Christian Mission until 1967. In 1968 Donna moved to Denver and attended Metropolitan State College where she graduated with an Associate Degree in nursing. Donna worked in the nursing field for most of her life and she was still working at 9Health when she was almost 80!
Donna had a love of travel and was able to travel to Hong Kong, Japan, China, and Mexico. While Donna never married she always talked about the love of her life and still held a place for him in her heart. Throughout her life Donna had many friends and truly enjoyed life. She was a kind, considerate, friendly, and sometimes feisty woman! Even after moving to an assisted living center, she was very active. She participated in activities, outings, shopping, and took second place in the walking club. Like many, COVID isolation wasn't kind to Donna and she moved to Memory Care in February 2021. Even while there Donna continued to participate in daily activities including arts and crafts, cookie decorating, sports parties, flower arranging, and was always ready for a bus trip to view mountains, fall colors, wildlife, and holiday lights.
Around 2006 Donna joined THE Women’s Gym and became best friends with Carolyn, Karen, Kathy, Marcia, and Patty, a group of ladies deemed “the coffee girls”. They would exercise early every Saturday morning and then go to Starbucks for socializing and support. Later this close-knit group would celebrate birthdays and Christmas together for the next 15 plus years. They visited Donna at the assisted living center and memory care often and included her in our celebrations and definitely brought her favorite seasonal Starbucks coffee drinks.
Donna passed peacefully on December 23, 2022, with good friends at her side. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 12:30PM to 2:30PM at Peak Community Wellness Center in the Maple Room. Light refreshments will be served. Donna was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. She had a life well-lived!
