Alice Mae Cain, born December 5, 1927, in Lamar, Missouri, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2024. She was the cherished daughter of Hershel and Margarite Crane, growing up on the family farm alongside her siblings Ruthie, William and Nicholas. Alice, the eldest sibling, held a special place in the hearts of her family.
Her journey began in Lamar, where the roots of her resilience and warmth were firmly planted. Later, her family moved to Wichita, Kansas, where Alice's vibrant spirit continued to blossom. It was in Wichita that she encountered the love of her life, Milton Cain, at a lively square dance party. Their meeting was serendipitous, with Milton catching her from falling off a table, a moment that sparked a lifelong romance. Alice and Milton exchanged vows in August of 1948, embarking on a journey of shared laughter, love, and companionship that lasted until Milton's passing in 1993.
Professionally, Alice excelled as a real estate broker for Caldwell Banker, where her integrity and dedication left an indelible mark on her colleagues and clients alike. Beyond her professional endeavors, Alice found joy in simple pleasures, relishing in leisurely walks, enriching travels to Japan and Hawaii, and the lively rhythms of square dancing. Her sorority sisters held a special place in her heart, weaving a tapestry of lifelong friendships and cherished memories.
Surviving relatives include her sister Mary Ruth "Ruthie" Nicholas, niece Mary White great niece Jody and husband William, along with their son Brayden, and Jody's grandchildren McKinley and Michael.
Alice's heart extended beyond her immediate family, embracing Mike and Mary Kay Van Allen and their children Katie, Krista, and Taylor as her own. Their bond was a testament to her boundless capacity for love and her innate ability to make everyone feel like family.
A service to honor Alice's life will be held at 2pm on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Advantage Runyan Stevenson Funeral Home in Lakewood, CO. She will be laid to rest next to Milton at Maize Park Cemetery in Maize, KS.
