It is with a profound sense of loss and sadness that we announce that Samuel Seth Natter, 54, of Englewood, Tennessee passed away peacefully after a battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease.) on Thursday, April 11, 2024.
Sam was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to Morris and Anna Natter and spent his youth in Raleigh, North Carolina & Roswell, Georgia, where he attended Crestwood High school. Upon graduating, Sam proudly joined the U.S. Navy at the young age of 19. His 8 years of service in the Navy was marked by dedication and honor. He served on the USS Nassau (LHA-4). This is where he met several incredible men who became his life-long band of brothers. After leaving the Navy, Sam put his creative talents to work as a Media Director/Graphic Designer for Dynasty Spas in Athens, TN, where he worked for 22 years until his diagnosis in 2022, at which time he and his family moved to Lakeway, TX to be closer to family.
Sam married the love of his life, Shawndell Gray Natter, in 2000. In 2008, they welcomed their daughter Anna Eva to the world, who quickly became the apple of his eye. Sam introduced his daughter to swimming at a very young age, which laid the groundwork for her future career as a competitive swimmer. Some of Anna’s fondest memories of her dad were spent in the car driving together as he shuttled her back and forth to swim practice and swim meets all around the southeast. Sam was also a huge music enthusiast and outdoorsman, spending most of his free time camping, kayaking, or mountain biking hundreds of miles of trails with his daughter, Anna. Sam was also an avid gardener and was very proud of the fresh vegetables his family harvested each year that not only fed his family, but many friends in their small community. And boy, did Sam love football – if he wasn’t donning red and black while cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, you’d find him faithfully wearing his North Carolina Blue cheering on the Tar Heels or yelling at the television while sporting a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey. He was a true fan through and through, and much like his enthusiasm and loyalty to his teams, he was also a fiercely loyal and devoted husband, father, and friend.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife of nearly 24 years, Shawndell Gray Natter of Lakeway, TX, his daughter, Anna Eva Natter of Lakeway, TX, his in-laws, Mary and Tom Nestler of Boulder City, Nevada, his brothers-in-law, Travis (Gay) Gray of Lakeway, TX, Shane Gray of San Diego, CA, sisters-in-law Sarah Gray of North Bend OR, Nikki Gray of Santa Monica, CA, Leah Cook of Bakersfield, CA, Uncle Jack of Etowah, TN, along with his many cousins, nieces, and nephews whom he adored.
A private Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 honoring and celebrating his beautiful life at 1:00 pm at 502 Ladin Lane, Lakeway, TX 78734.
For those who wish to remember him, Sam said in lieu of flowers, he would like contributions to be made in his honor to St. Jude’s Hospital at give hope to kids with cancer.
