

Maura Morales Cravens passed away on January 6th, 2023 at her home with her family by her side, at 83 years young. She was born on May 7th, 1940, in Veracruz, Mexico, where she grew up and attended the University of Veracruz: School of Law. She soon met Sydney, when he arrived in Veracruz to study at the University as a foreign exchange student for the summer. He returned to the United States and abruptly found himself back in Veracruz the following summer. Sydney proposed marriage to Maura and naturally, she said YES!! The two moved to Lawrence, Kansas and lived there for 4 or so years. They traveled onto Kingsville, Texas and resided there where Maggie was adopted and nine months later, John Paul arrived. Sydney accepted a position at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, where they resided and continued to raise their children. Sydney retired from his career after 30 years of faithful and heartfelt service to the university and community in 2003.
Maura was very involved in her family and her community with outreach, volunteer work and various activities. She and Sydney later moved to Austin, Texas where they continue to reside.
Maura is survived by her husband, Sydney Paul Cravens; their children, John Paul Cravens (Marlaine) and Margaret Cravens (Alaric Pollard); her grandchildren, Presley Cravens, Charlsa Brumley (Monique Rubio), Syd Gotsis (Andrew); her great-grandchildren, Steven Taylor (Bailey), Christopher Taylor, Dimitrios Gotsis, Silus Gotsis, and Zoe Gotsis; her great-great-grandchild, Clover Taylor; her sister, Antonia Morales; her nieces, Selene Duplantis (Kim), Ana Maria Sandiel Berlanga (Tristan Berlanga Sr., deceased); her nephew, Ramon Guzman (Irene); her great-nephews, Kim and Kyle Duplantis, Ramon Guzman Jr.; her great-nieces, Gerda and Maria Jose Guzman; her godchildren, Claudia Berlanga Bouchez (Eduardo), Tristan Berlanga, Jr., Jose Berlanga (Adriana); her great-godchildren, Eduardo Bouchez Jr. and Nicole Bouchez, Tristan “Pan” Berlanga III, Diego and Sofia Berlanga; her cousins, Candelaria and son, Armando Gonzales.
The family would like to thank True Heart Hospice and Meals on Wheels for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in her final days.
