We are sad to announce that Mary Margaret Hamill, age 71, passed away on March 6, 2020. Mary moved to Lakeway, Texas in mid 2019 to be near family. Mary was a devout Catholic who lived her beliefs every day in every way. Her capacity to help those in need was endless. Mary grew up in the suburbs of Washington, DC and attended 16 years of Catholic school (Little Flower grade school, Ursuline Academy High School and then Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia) before receiving her Masters degree in teaching from Brown University. Mary returned to the Philadelphia area and remained there as a teacher at Penncrest High School for 42 years. She was loved by everyone, most especially by the many students she inspired over this lifetime of service.
Mary was very proud of her Irish heritage and travelled to Ireland finding her Irish family whom she grew very close to over many decades of visits. Mary leaves behind many dear friends and her two brothers and sister: Andy ; John; and Kathleen. Mary will be sorely missed, but those of us who loved her now have a new Guardian Angel in Heaven.
The Celebration of Life for Mary Hamill previously planned for May 16th is being postponed at this time due to the restrictions on gatherings necessitated by the corona virus. Given the uncertainty of when the virus will peak in the Washington DC area, we have not set a new date at this time, but will do so once we can be assured that all who wish to attend can do so safely.
