Our sweet mother Lillian Arlene Garcia (Lily) sadly passed away on Jan 3, 2023 at age 87 with family by her side. She was born in Quincy Massachusetts on October 23, 1935, her maiden name was Lillian Mercurio. Mom had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to make people laugh, she was well loved by her many cousins and friends. She had a great love of music from big band to classic country, but her favorite was Frank Sinatra. Anytime you went to her home there was always music playing in the background. Mama was an outstanding ballroom dancer and was well known at Wonderland Ballroom in Revere Massachusetts. She was a strong, independent Italian woman who raised 5 children well. She loved to cook and was excellent at it. She retired from TJX Corporation as an auditor. She previously worked as a switchboard operator for the phone company when they connected calls by wire. She lived most of her life in Massachusetts but always had a love for Texas after living there in the 60’s. She moved back to Texas in 2017 to be closer to her daughter Tammy and son Billy when she was needing more help. Mom has had a peaceful and happy life while here and enjoyed the visits from her family over the years. Our last get together was Christmas Eve and we are so grateful for it.
Mama used to say, I want to be buried in Texas under a tree where cattle graze. She will rest at Austin Memorial Cemetery, which was a cattle ranch, under the shade of a large tree.
Lily is predeceased by her mother Anna Mercurio, her father Anthony Mercurio and her sister Rose Belcher and husband Reggie Belcher. Mama lost three babies, I know she is holding them all now, Donna Weed, Melanie Tayman and Ruby Tayman.
Lily is survived by her daughter Debbie Demakowski and husband John Demakowski of Franklin, New Hampshire, daughter Linda Fegan of Quincy, Massachusetts, daughter Tammy Templin and husband Scott Templin of Lakeway, Texas, son Bill Tayman of Leander, Texas, son Jamie Garcia and wife Patti Garcia of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, her grandchildren Daniel Clark, Adam Angelo, Celia White, Shawna Dexter, Erin Garcia, Katie Garcia, Seth Templin and her great granddaughter Aubree White.
The funeral will be a private ceremony with only close family members on 1/10/23
