He was born in Waco, Texas in 1934 and graduated from Waco High School. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin in 1959. His career in the oil industry and in the oilfield equipment and services industry spanned a period of 54 years, beginning with his first position working for Amoco in South Louisiana while still pursuing his degree. At the time of his death he was employed by the Cameron International Drilling Systems division as General Manager of Guiberson. Among the many executive management positions he held during his long career were:
• Dresser Industries – Appointed Vice President of Research & Engineering, Guiberson Division, 1976
• Regal Tool & Rubber in Corsicana, Texas – Named President, 1977
• Hughes Tool Company – Became President of Brown Oil Tools, 1980;
• Group President, Production Tools and Services, 1983.
• Yarborough Elastomer Products – Chief Executive Officer, 1989
• Baker Hughes – Corporate Vice President Oilfield Marketing, Retired 2001
• Irving Shipbuilding in Halifax, Nova Scotia– Vice President Business Development, 2001
• Cameron International Drilling Systems Division, General Manager H&H Rubber Products, 2004
Joe is survived by his wife and best friend, Margie, with whom he had an incredible love affair for 37 beautiful years.
Margie will host a memorial service to celebrate Joe’s life on Saturday, August 6th beginning at 2:00 in the afternoon. The service will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home located at 411 Ranch Road 620 South in Lakeway, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston in Joe’s memory and in honor of his leading oncologist, Dr. Scott Kopetz, to whom Margie will always be grateful for his very kind and understanding care of her “boyfriend”.
