Jesse Max Hawthorne passed away on September 8, 2015 at his family home in Spicewood, Texas. Max was born December 7, 1940 in Levelland Texas to JD and Francile Hawthorne. He graduated from Morton High School in 1959 and from Texas Tech University in 1964. While he was at Tech he was a member of Sigma Nu and the Saddle Tramps. After marrying Chris Ashley, they made a home for their two daughters in Lovington, NM where he farmed with his brother Don, carrying on the family cotton farming tradition. Later he sold chemicals for ProKem, Inc in Lovington.
Max was an active member of the Lovington United Methodist Church and will be remembered as a hard-working honest man, a loving husband, father and grandfater. He is survived by his wife Chris, daughters Jill Hawthorne and Stacy Murphy, son-in-law John Murphy and grandsons Dylan and Hunter Palmer and Josh Sanchez, all from Austin. Also surviving is his sister and brother-in-law Jan and Fred Dorsey, sister-in-law Viola Hawthorne, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Don and Sandy Ashley and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins who he loved dearly. Sadly he was predeceased by his brother Don Hawthorne 25 years ago.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 11 at 2pm at the Terrace Cemetery, Post Texas, under the care of Hudman Funeral Home.
