“Jerry” was born on January 29th,1966 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Jerry A. and Rowena S. Mohn of Galveston, Texas. He grew up in Houston, Texas and graduated from Westchester High School in 1984. After graduating high school, he went on to study at the University of Oklahoma for two years before transferring and graduating from Texas Christian University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio/TV/Film. After graduation, he traveled the globe for a year having fun experiences and meeting interesting people.
After his travels, Jerry went on to be a professional videographer with CNN in Atlanta, Georgia. His time with CNN included traveling the globe with their International division for many years. In 1999, Jerry started his family and moved back to Texas. He started working for the local NBC affiliate in Austin and eventually started his own business. He was very successful in his endeavors until his sudden and unexpected passing.
Jerry loved traveling and spending time with his sons. He was an auto enthusiast and loved Dodge cars - his favorite’s being Vipers and Chargers. He also loved music and loved the sounds of his favorite bands, Pearl Jam, Grateful Dead and Metallica among others. He loved the artistic values within different cultures from around the globe and his home reflected his love for this.
Jerry was a cherished member of the community, known for his generosity and big heart between family, friends, and organizations he was a part of. One of his favorite organizations was the local youth sports association, LTYA, where he was a board member and coach for many years while his son’s played sports there. He was always a person you could count on and didn’t hesitate to help anyone in need. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. His presence brought love and compassion to all who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his Ex-wife and mother of his three sons, Sallye Mohn of Spicewood, Texas; their children Justin Mohn of Ft Collins, Colorado, Jake Mohn of San Marcos, Texas and Joe Mohn of Bee Cave, Texas; sister Jennifer Haley, nephews Gabriel Haley and Joshua Haley of Austin, Texas and aunts, uncles and cousins and his dog, Karma. Jerry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Augie and Emma Simms and Orin and Peggy Mohn. His family was his pride and joy and his greatest role in life was caring for his three boys.
A memorial service will be held to honor his life on Wednesday, November 27th at 10am at Weed Corley Fish funeral home in Lakeway, Texas. He always loved the ocean, his ashes will be scattered by his sons in ocean waters. We invite you to share pictures and memories on the funeral home website. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
