James (Jim) Rhodes Curtis was born on July 18, 1933 in Belmont, Massachusetts to the late William Mutch Curtis Jr and Sarah Beatrice Curtis. The beloved husband of 62 years of Margaret (Peggy) Curtis, he quietly departed this earthly life for his eternal life on October 19, 2018.
Jim attended public schools in Belmont and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Upon graduation he joined the United States Air Force and served with honor for 28 years. Among his decorations as an Air Force officer were the Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Air Medal with five oak leaf clusters.
After his retirement from the Air Force, Lt. Col. James Curtis continued in one of his greatest joys, serving his Lord, his community and others and this was his life's work. While living in Shreveport, Louisiana, he became very active in his community as the vice president of the Broadmoor Neighborhood Association. After moving to Marble Falls, Texas, Jim influenced the lives of numerous young people as a substitute teacher and inclusion aide for Marble Falls High School. He was also member of St Luke's Episcopal Church where he was a member of the vestry and a junior warden.
Jim became an avid sportsman and developed a love for machinery in all its forms. He was highly skilled at fixing anything and spent countless hours working on cars, boats, and household projects. He was his own handyman. Jim loved his community, family, and country deeply and was loved by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bill Curtis. His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his brother, C.B. Curtis, his loving wife Peggy, beloved children, Jay and Paula Curtis, Dusty and Maggie Curtis, Mark and Avon Curtis, and Meg and Rod Favaron, twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Cypress Mills, Texas at 10:00am on Saturday, October 27. Burial will be in the Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider donating in his name to the National Kidney Foundation or the charity of your choice.
