Gilbert Buel Roberts Jr., "Gil," was born on May 3, 1941 in Greenville, TX to Buster and Liz Roberts, who were there to welcome him to heaven. Gil is there to one day welcome his much loved wife Nancy; son Matt; granddaughters: Chloe, Kaylee, Alyssa; brother Gary; other family members; his friends; and everyone who knows Jesus.
Gil was reared in Greenville, attending Central Christian Church with his family and graduated from high school as president of the student body. He later graduated with a master's degree in engineering from SMU and worked at E-Systems in Greenville with his dad until joining the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He became a pilot flying KC-135 Stratotankers and was tasked with refueling bombers, fighters, and attack aircraft. He later was in the Air Force Reserve, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After his active duty in the Air Force, Gil became a corporate officer with People Express airlines and later a Captain, flying with continental Airlines until his retirement.
Anyone meeting with Gil would soon learn his passion was golf. You could find him on a golf course from his school days until shortly before his death. he was easy to spot on the golf course then as he was the one with an oxygen tank strapped strategically to his body.
Gil had become very interested in Bible study and spent most of his time off the golf course with his wife, Nancy, at home and making copious notes from his study. He is now getting the best education possible from the ones who wrote the text and most of all from the One the text referred, his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. All are invited to experience what Gil is enjoying now in heaven where there is no more sorrow, pain, or tears. His hope is to see you there.
A visitation for Gilbert will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 411 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, TX 78734, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
