George Leroy Murray, from Austin Texas, loving husband and proud father of four sons, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2021, just 11 days shy of his 89th birthday
George LeRoy Murray Jr. was born in Station Hospital, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas to George LeRoy Murray Sr. and Emily MacManus Murray.
George attended St Paul’s School for Boys, Covington, Louisiana, and Austin High School. After graduating from High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was trained as an electronics technician and served for four years.
He then moved to Fort Worth where he worked for Convair but after learning about openings with FAA he applied and was accepted and worked for them for thirty-five years, mostly in Austin but for five years in Key West. After retiring he had several jobs including with IBM, Dell, Action Marine and Sandy Creek Marina.
George loved boats and lived on three different boats for fifteen years. He also loved working outside and fixing anything. It was difficult for him when he could no longer cut his own grass at age 86.
He is preceded in death by his parents George LeRoy Murray and Emily MacManus Murray, his older sister Millicent Welch and Peggy Littlefield.
George is survived by his wife Ann Catharine Murray, four sons, Robert Murray, Ryan Murray, his wife Irina Murray and children Mila and Maxim, Sean Murray and partner Heather Edwab, Steve Murray and his wife Jill Murray, niece Meredith Robinson, nephews Melton Welch, Marshall Welch and Eryk Markham, step-daughter Karen Balentine, her husband James Randall Balentine, their children Tori and Nathan, stepson John Dudley, his wife Tammy Dudley, his son Braden Dudley and also Lori Branson.
George was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Lake Travis United Methodist Church, 1502 RR 620N.
