Diane Pittman

Diane Pittman, born July 2, 1942, passed peacefully in her sleep to be with her Lord and Savior on July 8, 2023. She was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, to her loving parents, Wilson and Berniece Gates. Diane was the second oldest of 5 children and lived her entire life as a caring daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend. She loved well and knew she was loved by her entire family, and nothing was left unsaid.

Diane met the love of her life, Virgil Pittman, in the cafeteria line at Northwestern State University, where she received her education degree. Diane and Virgil were married on March 27, 1964, and shared a beautiful life together, like two mallard ducks on a pond, for 59 years. They created a beautiful family life in cities across the country and Germany as well.

Diane and Virgil loved to spend time together and were always together at each other’s side. Diane was a loving and devoted mother to their three children, Marc, Christy, and Jason. She enjoyed traveling alongside family and friends, creating a welcoming home, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Diane enjoyed tending to her flowers and sharing her love for others through her desserts. The family often requested her red velvet cake, Texas sheet cake, snickerdoodles, and lemon pound cake, including her grandchildren, who lovingly called her Gia. She loved getting to know each of her grandchildren individually and was a great listener who knew right when she needed to talk and help with challenges in life.

Diane loved the Lord and was a strong student of the Bible, always active in her church, volunteering and sharing her faith as a Bible Study Fellowship leader for many years and, more recently, as a Stephen Minister at Lakeway Church.

Diane was preceded in death by her Father, Wilson Gates; Mother, Berniece Gates, brother-in-law, Larry Slaughter, and nephew, Hank Gravel and is survived by her loving husband, Virgil Pittman, and son, Marc Pittman and daughter-in-law, Hilary Pittman; Daughter, Christy Orr, and son-in-law Bill Orr; son, Jason Pittman, and daughter-in-law Angel Pittman; grandchildren, Emily Orr, Madeline Orr, Isaac Pittman, Thomas Orr, Ryan Orr, Lucas Pittman, Dominic Cates, Avery Pittman, Ella Pittman and her siblings, June Slaughter, Jill and Sam Gravel, Jack and Carol Gates, and David & Bonnie Gates.

A visitation will be held Friday, July 14, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel 411 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, TX 78734. A celebration of her life will be held at Lakeway Church at 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 15, 2023. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made in memory of Diane to Lakeway Church or Longhorn Village Foundation.
