It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, David Wallace Gannon, who left us on January 26, 2025, at the age of 76. Born in Albany, NY on July 8, 1948, David lived a life full of adventure, love, and laughter. He was a man who truly embraced every moment, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
David proudly served his country for eight years in the U.S. Air Force 823rd Red Horse Squadron. As a Combat Engineer during the Vietnam War, David served with a distinguished unit known for its rapid-response capabilities in some of the most dangerous and demanding conditions. His two tours were marked by incredible bravery, dedication, and an unwavering sense of duty—traits that remained with him throughout his life. The discipline, leadership, and camaraderie he found in the military helped shape the incredible man he became—strong, steadfast, and resolute in his devotion to those he loved. He carried the lessons of his service with him throughout his life; and he never forgot the fallen left behind. After active duty, David dedicated 22 years as a Civil Engineer with the U.S. Air Force civil service where he traveled the world. He then built a successful family-owned business in Okinawa, Japan before retiring in Austin.
David is survived by his loving wife, Elaine, of nearly 50 years; his four daughters, Scotti (Edward), Jamie (Tim), Leslie (Brent), and Casey; his nine grandchildren (Alex, Calvin, Philip, Gunnar, Logan, Mason, Jaclyn, Michelle, Ellis) and two great-grandchildren (Makayla, Miles), all of whom filled him with immense pride. He is also survived by his siblings, Eileen, Brian, Kate and brother-in-law Pat, who brought him joy and companionship throughout his life.
David’s family was his greatest joy, and he took every opportunity to tell them how much they meant to him. He had a gift for telling stories, often with a joke or two thrown in, and could brighten any room with his infectious laugh. Whether on an impromptu road trip or sharing a quiet moment with his loved ones, David made life richer for everyone around him. He never met a stranger.
A fighter to the very end, David demonstrated incredible strength, optimism, and determination through all of life’s challenges. His spirit and courage will remain a guiding light for his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of David’s life will be held on February 8, 2025 at 11am at Queen of Angels Chapel, 20600 Siesta Shores Dr, Spicewood, TX, followed by his burial at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery and final farewell party at GoodFolks in Georgetown, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Heroes Night Out (https://heroesnightout.org/) in David’s name.
David’s memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones, and his legacy of laughter, adventure, love, and service will continue to inspire us every day. Rest in peace, Dad. We love you.
