Better times.

It’s been a year since I lost my friend David. I miss our good times together and think of you often. Rest in peace…

I’d like to extend my sincere condolences to David’s sisters, family, and friends. I remember David fondly from the years he lived in New Jersey and Pennsylvania as an adult in the 1980s. He had a taste for fine dining and we spent many weekends in both NYC and Philly trying different restaurants. He had a knack for wine pairings with each course! I’ll always remember the time we ate in the Odeon Cafe in NYC. I ran into David Bowie downstairs by the phone booths and wound up introducing David to both David Bowie and Iggy Pop. They got along great and they sat and talked with us for about 45 minutes! Great memories!

I had the pleasure of spending time with David while he was in Delaware. He was a tough athlete, had a great sense of humor, and was a generous man (I still have one of his old bikes). We had fun times rowing, biking, jet skiing, and just kidding around. Whenever I see a guy in a tracksuit or on a stand-up jet ski, I think of David and smile.

Rest In Peace David.

I met David when I was a third year medical student during my  surgical rotation at Mulhlenberg Hospital in New Jersey.  David had just start a few months before as a new anesthesiologist, fresh out of training. He started a conversation with me at the scrub sink and we quickly discovered our common interests. The following week we had dinner together and just started hanging out in our limited spare time.
I was a poor student and David took me under his wing, always picking up the tab for our times out. I told him I’d repay him down the road. Throughout the rest of my training, I spent most of my free time with him. Through my later five years of surgical and orthopedic training, we would go out often to blow off the frustrations of our occupations. We purchased motorcycles together and raised hell at the Jersey Shore, thrown out of bars, chased by the State Police on the highways and generally acting with the maturity of adolescents. 
I finished my training, found a position in Delaware decided to married my sweetheart and settle down (to an extent) in order to build a practice and start a family. David was there to carry our first born child into our house. He was her Godfather when she was baptized. It seemed that we were together every weekend I wasn’t on call. We would get together at my place in Delaware or go to south Jersey where he was working.
Eventually, my practice grew and I was ready to build my own surgery center, something David and I talked about for years. After building the center, David came to town to provide anesthesia services. All was great in the world. My wife and I had two more daughters, David was there for their first steps . He was ‘Uncle David’ to my girls. 
Then, things slowly started to change. He left the area. We lost contact and years passed. I sent him a text message with pictures of my kids and grandkids just recently, but only a ’thank you’ in reply.

I hope you found peace  David, I miss you every day.
