Connie was born on February 11, 1935, in Chicago, IL, where he spent his childhood years, growing up with his 3 older sisters Theresa, Kathleen, and Sally. In 1966 he met his eventual wife, Lorie LeMay, and they began their 58-year marriage later that year. The young couple made their way to Milwaukee, WI, where they both worked for National Tea Company. In 1969 they celebrated the birth of their son, Matthew Patrick, then shortly after moved to Dallas, TX, where they would spend the next 53 years. In 1972, their family was made complete with the birth of their daughter, Molly Therese.
Professionally, Connie spent the majority of his work years as an accountant, including 25 years at the Southland Corporation, and his latter years running his own business. But Connie was defined by far more than his jobs - he filled his non-work time as a husband, dad, brother, uncle, bowler, tennis player, volunteer, and all-around great guy. There is a generation of kids who grew up in Holiday Park who fondly remember piling into Connie’s car for a trip to 7-Eleven for slurpees!
His volunteer work was expansive, from serving as treasurer of the homeowner’s association to delivering bread to those in need to refereeing swim meets (including the 1988 Olympic Trials). But his true volunteer passion was at All Saints Catholic Church, where he was active in the Men’s club, ran the food pantry, raised funds for various church-related needs, and served communion, both at mass and at the homes of those unable to attend church.
Connie is survived by his loving wife Lorie, his children Matt Rodgers and Molly May, his granddaughters Cassidy and Kendra Rodgers, and numerous nieces and nephews. His memory will be cherished by all whose lives he touched.
A service will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas, TX, on February 18 at 10:30 am, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
