Charles Parker Benner, age 98, of Houston passed from this life on January 24, 2015. He was born in Glen Flora, Texas on September 23, 1916, to Goldie and Arthur A. Benner. He attended El Campo High School and graduated from Texas A&I University. He did postgraduate work at California Institute of Technology, University of Houston, and Rice University. Stationed in Africa and Italy during World War II, Charles served at the rank of Captain in the United States Army Air Force as meteorologist to the 325th Fighter Group, the "Checkertail Clan." After retiring from a thirty-eight year career as Professor of Mathematics at the University of Houston, Charles dedicated more than twenty years of service to his beloved Houston Downtown Lions Club.
Charles is preceded in death by his first wife, Willean Seidel Benner, his second wife, Pauline Reuter Davis Benner, and his seven younger siblings. He is survived by daughters Susan Givens and husband Bill, Beverly Rosson and husband Larry; and loving grandchildren, Jordan Givens, Charles Rosson and fiancé Margot Trevino, and Elizabeth Rosson Hann and husband Morgan.
Memorial Services will be held at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2400 Wilcrest Dr., Houston TX 77042 at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 31.
