15th, 2021 at his home after a battle with cancer. Thank you to Hospice and the wonderful
people who helped bring him peace and comfort. They loved to stay and listen to all his life
stories.
Chick was born July 12, 1929 in Groveton, Texas to the late Carl Anderson and Lillian (Bruce)
Anderson Dupre. He joined the Army in 1946 at the end of World War II and into the Korean
War. He trained in light and heavy weapons, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division and the 2nd
Rangers Company.
After leaving the military in 1952, Chick joined the Orange, Texas Police Department as a
motorcycle officer. In 1962 he joined the Houston Police Department and after graduating from
the HPD Academy he worked in the ID Division and later Crime Labs Division as Senior
Firearms Examiner. He loved the many disciplines involved with his work. If Chick wasn’t
investigating, sitting at his microscope looking at bullets or testifying in court, he was learning
or teaching. One of the outstanding things he did was his role as an Expert Firearms Examiner
in the “Benchmark Evaluation Studies of the Bulletproof & Drugfire Ballistic Imaging System”.
He distinguished himself numerous times throughout his career earning commendations and
honors. The FBI Academy and Sam Houston State University Criminal Justice Center, as well
as Armorer’s schools, were some of the institutions he attended.
After 36 years with HPD, he retired in 1998 and went on to serve as Police Chief of Brookside
Village Police Department from 1999 to 2005, where he and his wife Sharon raised their
blended family and lived from 1971 to 2017.
Chick was a member of the Walter M. Pierson Masonic Lodge No. 1339 in Houston, Texas.
He was a distinguished Member of AFTE (Assoc. of Firearms and Tool Mark Examiners), as well
as other forensic associations, where he made life long friendships.
Sharon will always remember Chick as a great story teller. From military to police stories, she
never got tired of listening. After retirement, a couple of his favorite reads were authors John
Grisham and Larry McMurtry. Chick, better known as Pooka to his grandchildren, was the best
Santa impersonator ever...hands down. Towing the grandkids in a wagon behind his riding
lawn-mower was a favorite memory, and oatmeal cookies and biscuits put a smile on his face.
For Sharon’s recent birthday, he wrote a beautiful note in his own hand, “Happy 80th Birthday
to Sharon Lee, from your Chickadee. November 12, 2021 will be fifty years, you have all my
love. You have a wonderful life and just remember me. I love you forever and some. Chick”
He will always be her “Little Chickadee”.
Chick is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sharon Lee (Wallace) Anderson, sister Joy Fay
Hidalgo; daughters Glenda Combs and husband Denny, Linda Charlene Harper and husband
Clay, Dana Fish and husband John; son Craig Hardegree and wife Vanessa; grandsons Ryan
Whitehouse and wife Merlinda, Kevin Fish and wife Lauren, Collin Fish, John Fowler, and Scott
Fowler; granddaughters Tara Whitehouse, Scarlet Harper, Tiffany Wellman and husband Blake,
Erica Syverson and husband TJ, Rachael Hardegree, Lillie Burtness and husband Chris, Kayla
Anderson, and Crystal Mckenzie; Precious great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren,
nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his son Charles E. Anderson, Jr., daughter Debbie Fowler, sister
Maxine Conley and brother Norman Dupre.
In lieu of flowers, Chick would have appreciated a gift to Shriners Hospitals for Children,
www.lovetotherescue.org, or a charity of your choice.
