Cecylia Kuyel, 82, of Austin peacefully passed away in her sleep July 8, 2024 in Brookdale Lakeway Assisted Living. She was the beloved wife of Birol Kuyel and incredible mother of Sylvia Kuyel. Cecylia was born in Suwalki, Poland on January 13, 1942, a daughter of the late Wanda and Jan Mucha and sister of the late John and Henry Mucha. Cecylia was the first in her immediate family to earn advanced degrees in the United States, attending college in New Haven, Connecticut and graduate school at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio, where she met her husband, built lifelong friendships, and reminded everyone, “we have one life to live”. She gave birth to her daughter in Princeton, New Jersey and lived in Austin, Texas from 1988 to 2024. She was known for her charisma, and when asked where she was from, she would confidently reply with her Polish accent - “East, East Texas.” She took great joy in playing games (bridge, backgammon, Rummikub), she was an unbeatable host, she voraciously watched the news and she loved her plants. Above all, she deeply loved her family and friends. A physical therapist for many years, she dedicated every aspect of her life to caring for others. She touched the lives of family and friends around the world, in the United States, Turkey and Poland. Cecylia is survived by her husband, Birol Kuyel and her daughter, Sylvia Kuyel and son-in-law, and her grandchildren, Rio and Lulu.
We deeply thank friends and family who have touched her life and who will continue to be a part of our lives. Mass and reception will be held at Emmaus Catholic Church, 1718 Lohmans Crossing Rd, Lakeway, TX 78734, at 11 am CT on July 16, 2024. Burial will take place at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Dr, Austin, TX 78731, at 2 pm CT. Family and friends may send flowers and remembrances the day prior to Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 411 Ranch Rd 620 S, Lakeway, TX 78734.
