We mourn the loss and celebrate the rich, vibrant life of Betty Beatrice Melzer Moore, a beacon of warmth and love to all who knew her. Betty passed away on March 20th, 2024, on the day of her 80th birthday, at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Lakeway, Tx surrounded by the memories of a life joyfully lived. This was just days after a grand celebration in her honor, where over a hundred friends and family members gathered at the Lakeway Community Center, marking her milestone birthday with joy and festivity.
Born in Amarillo, Texas, on March 20, 1944, to Laurence "Larry" Shipstead Melzer and Dorothy Ruth Brooks Melzer, Betty's journey was one of passion, dedication, and unwavering love for her family and friends. A proud alumna of Midland High School (Class of 1962) and Texas Tech University, where she received both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Spanish by 1969, Betty was not just an academic; she was a cherished member of the Phi Mu Sorority and an active participant in the Philanthropic Educational Organization Sisterhood (P.E.O.).
Betty's life was marked by her entrepreneurial spirit and her dedication to education. For nearly four decades, she managed the books for Audio Video Pro, her husband’s family business, in Midland. Her career also spanned selling real estate, teaching Spanish at local junior highs and the MISD homebound program, where she touched many lives with her personalized approach to education and her unwavering belief in the power of connection and family values.
A long-time resident of Midland, Betty cherished her desert home while also seeking adventures beyond its borders, traveling both domestically and internationally. In 2020, she made Lakeway her new home to be closer to her family. There, she immersed herself in the Tres Vistas community, serving on the HOA board, managing finances for the Solo group, and engaging in her passions for bridge, piano, swimming, and art. Betty's home, especially remodeled to house her grand piano, became a center for gatherings, music, and laughter, mirroring her life's theme of connection and love.
Betty's artistic talents extended to painting, with her portraits serving as vivid reminders of her love for family and friends, capturing the essence of her cherished connections.
Betty is predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles H. Moore II, parents, Larry and Dorothy, and her adored eldest sister Marianne Staib. Betty's legacy of love and resilience continues through her siblings, Steve Melzer and Martha Savage; her devoted children, Heidi Moore (Jeff Henderson) and Charles H. Moore III "Trey" (Esther Tannehill Moore); her adored grandchildren, Charlie, Henry, Molly, Hannah Robert, Isabella Robert, Ethan Robert, and Elijah Robert; and a host of nieces and nephews who were the recipients of her endless pride, mentorship, and time.
In Betty's memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, honoring her compassionate spirit and the fight against cancer that took her husband, Charles.
