David Wayne Kapunohuulaokamoana Feola, 71, passed away peacefully at home in Lakeport, CA. July 1st 2017. Son of Anthony John and Helen Veronica (Keliikuli) Feola, born in the Territory of Hawaii. Raised in a military family, Dave attended 13 different schools in a 12 year span and some time in Germany. Finally settling in Upper Lake, CA. where he graduated in 1963 from Upper Lake High School and enlisted into the United States Army.
Dave married his high school sweetheart Vivian Lee Vogt in 1967. After his service to his country, they moved back to Lake County and settled in Lakeport where he started his career in retail with Safeway. He became the Frozen Food Manger and received many accolades during his 38 years including the highest honor, "Donald J Smith Exceptional Achievement Award" in 1992. He also took much pride in building and creating displays for the National Frozen Food Month Program. Peter A Magowan Chairman, President and CEO of Safeway Inc., once told Dave, “You have what it takes to rise to those challenges. You tackle problems head-on and turn them into opportunities. You are a leader whose example, enthusiasm and effort inspire other to also do their best”. A statement that Dave was very proud of and lived by. In 2006 Dave retired from Safeway.
In addition to his full-time position at Safeway, Dave and his wife, Vivian catered Authentic Hawaiian Luaus for 40 years in Lake County. He was full of life and enjoyed supporting his kid’s interests in sports. He was an assistant coach for the Lang Brothers Little League. Also spent many years refereeing Youth, High School and Latin soccer leagues. In 1991, he modeled for the Lake County Easter Seal Society, and enjoyed the time he spent involved. An avid abalone diver, Dave enjoyed diving with his boys along the Mendocino Coastline. He was also fond of fishing, traveling, camping, and gardening. He was known for lending a helpful hand anytime he could, and would volunteer for functions around Lake County such as the annual 4-H Chicken-Q and the S.E.A.
Dave loved telling people about his life’s adventures growing up. He was full of life, and made many lifelong friends. Over the years, Dave received many nicknames a few of his favorites were: LUAU KING, Big Kahuna, Pineapple and Rockman.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Vivian (Vogt) Feola, his brother Roger, his Step-Mother Mary, his sons John (Brittany), Ken (Tamie), George, his grandchildren Keena, Blaine, Talen, Alicia, Tanya, Jade, Dalton, Jessie, Ricky, Freddie, his great-granddaughter Taylor, his 4-legged grandchildren, his nieces & nephews, his army buddy Senator Barrows and many other family & friends.
